In their early stages, colorectal diseases such as cancer, ulcers, polyps, colitis and diverticulitis may not show any visible symptoms even though they may be producing blood in the faeces. This test detects the presence of blood in the faeces, which may be indicative of an underlying bowel condition.
Bowel cancer is the third most common of cancers - but one of the most treatable if detected early enough. It has been suggested that all people over 50 years of age should be screening themselves regularly for early signs of bowel disorders.
This test is very easy to do yourself in the privacy of your own home. It involves collecting a small fecal specimen that is mixed with a special fluid and applied to a test cassette. The result is available after 5 minutes.
The test contains a collection device and a test device which provides results. Full and detailed instructions are provided.
If two distinct coloured lines appear in the test area, it indicates the presence of blood in the specimen. You should seek medical advice.
